A Time-Proven Medicine

For more than 3000 years, many people have used Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (AOM) to treat & prevent diseases. It is a complete healthcare system that includes acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Oriental massage, nutrition & exercise. Recognized around the world, many countries are making acupuncture and Oriental medicine a part of their health care system. Research studies continually verify and document the effectiveness of AOM.

Oregon Acupuncture Association

The OAA is a professional organization for Licensed Acupuncturists (LAcs). Oregon was one of the first states to license acupuncturists in 1973. LAcs complete a rigorous 4-year academic & clinical training program, pass a national exam & then are licensed by the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners.

ACUPUNCTURE - HOW IT WORKS

Oriental Medical says that pain and disease are caused by either an imbalance or a blockage of the energy circulating in the body. Acupuncture restores the proper flow of energy, returning the body to good health.

In an acupuncture treatment, thin sterile needles are inserted at specific points on the body. These points are carefully selected by the Licensed Acupuncturist according to the patient's problem. Each treatment is tailored to the individual's needs. The acupuncture treatment corrects the imbalances, removes the blockages of energy and restores health.

Emphasis is placed on understanding and treating the underlying cause of each individual's imbalance. This holistic approach treats not only physical complaints, but also emotional, environmental & lifestyle conditions.

In the history of mankind, more people have used acupuncture and Oriental Medicine than all other types of medicines combined. Today it helps people throughout this country and around the world.

COMMON QUESTIONS

DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK? Yes.

Acupuncture also treats the underlying cause of disease, not only the symptoms. When the cause of the problem is corrected, the results can be long-lasting or permanent.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of treatments varies widely according to the condition. Usually 1-2 treatments per week are recommended. Chronic illnesses require treatment for several weeks or longer. Acute problems generally respond much faster. Occasional treatments throughout the year are usually sufficient to maintain good health.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT LAST?

It may last from a few minutes to over an hour.

CAN I FEEL THE NEEDLES?

There is little or no pain since acupuncture needles are very thin. There may be mild discomfort with insertion, but once they are in place, the patient usually does not notice them and feels very relaxed.

ARE THE NEEDLES DISPOSABLE? Yes.

They are disposed of after each treatment.

DOES INSURANCE COVER ACUPUNCTURE?

Check your policy. More and more companies are covering it due to public demand.

CAN ACUPUNCTURE PREVENT DISEASE?

Yes. Some problems can even be corrected before drugs or surgery are needed.
